Verbal Process

Verbal Process

A process that is realized by verbal group which encodes experiences of bringing the inner world outside by speaking is called VERBAL process.
Participant roles in this process are:
Sayer: The person or thing (dictionary, sign, article, newspaper, etc.) that says something.
Verbiage: the content of what is said, always expressed by a Noun group
Receiver: the addressee; the person to whom something is said
Target: one acted upon verbally
Processes of saying or verbal processes can project another clause that expresses the content of what was said (locution). Locution can be realized in quotation, reported. The “locution” IS NOT a Participant in the verbal clause but a separate clause projected by it.
